Building High Performance Team In A Minute Essay
When working with a group or a company, the most expected mantra recited is ââ¬Å"be a team playerâ⬠in order contribute for the organizationââ¬â¢s accomplishment of all its goals and objectives. To quote, ââ¬Å"Someone may be great at his or her job, maybe even the best there ever was. But what counts at work is the organizationââ¬â¢s success, not personal success. After all, if your organization fails, it does not matter how great you were; you are just as unemployed as everyone elseâ⬠(Johnson, Kantner & Kikora, 1990). This is why Kenneth Blanchard decided to jack up his One Minute Manager book series by coming up with something that will focus on teamwork, which is The One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams (1990, revised 2000). With Eunice Parisi-Carew, Blanchard tackles in this book the in-depth dynamics of team structure and the most rewarding interactions of each team members. Blanchard hopes that, by reading the book, participants of these work groups will gain a clearer understanding of how their teams may function at optimal levels. As a prominent author, speaker and business consultant, Kenneth Blanchard is often described as one of the most insightful, powerful and compassionate gurus in the business world. Blanchard is chairman of Blanchard Training and Development Inc., a management consulting and training company which he founded in 1979. He co-authored four books in the One Minute Manager series that collectively sold more than nine million copies and have been translated into more than 20 languages. Also, he has regularly appeared on popular television news and business programs in the US and has been featured in leading magazines such as Time and US News. This is why if somebody has enough expertise on how teams can be made effective, Blanchard has definitely the authority to discuss how teams work to become high performing and achieve excellence for the organization. Noted for his leadership approach that promotes self-esteem and self worth through a clear and structured approach to making people accountable for their behavior, Blanchard emphasized that ââ¬Å"people who feel good about themselves produce good results ââ¬â and appeal is based on applying techniques that take only one minute to applyâ⬠. Whatââ¬â¢s most relevant in e One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams (2000) is that the authors presented seven characteristics of the perform model that identified the desired behaviors of an effective team: à · Purpose. Team members are clear about what the teamââ¬â¢s work is and why it is important. à · Empowerment. Members are confident about the teamââ¬â¢s ability to overcome obstacles and to realize its vision. à · Relationship and communication. The team is committed to open communication, and members feel that they can state their opinions, thoughts and feelings without fear. à · Flexibility. Members are flexible and perform different tasks and maintenance functions as needed. à · Optimal productivity. High-performing teams produce significant results, due to a commitment to high standards and quality results. à · Recognition and appreciation. Individual and team accomplishments are frequently recognized by the team leader ââ¬â as well as team members ââ¬â by celebrating milestones, accomplishments and events. à · Morale. Members are enthusiastic about the teamââ¬â¢s work, and each person feels pride in being a team member (p. 9-16). At 106 pages, this book is not a heavy read and filled with fictionalized dialogue to establish concrete examples. Also, this book interestingly explains the developmental stages a team goes through on their quest in becoming ââ¬Å"high-performingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"self-directed.â⬠Emphasizing on the group dynamics, the authors easily described how an effective leader or ââ¬Å"educatorâ⬠can help steer the team that will empower individual members to contribute their creative ideas and talents to attain the common goal: accomplishing the teamââ¬â¢s mission. In the work environment, teams materialize to focus on tasks or solve problems that are beyond the capacity of one individual. With this type of set-up that allow creative and innovative juices to flow through the constant sharing of information,à people could appropriate division of labor among the members of the team can lead to more effective, more efficient and less stressful workplace. Reaction Paper to Pre-Spanish Colonization
Reaction Paper to Pre-Spanish Colonization When I chose to enroll into the PHST 30 course, I really only had one intention for being in this class, and that is it is a CSU transferable class. All of my life I have considered myself to be a Filipino-American, although I was born and raised here in the United States. I never really knew much about Philippine history and I am actually glad that I am learning a little bit more in each class session. During Pre-Spanish colonization, I found some major concerns regarding my feelings towards some of the laws that were in effect in those days. For example with the poor people who were not allowed to have more than one child and if they did, their newborn baby would be thrown into the river. What gives the government the right to make a decisi on for a couple who want to have a bigger family? Back then people also could not be lazy; if they chose to be lazy, they were severely punished. If that were the case now, millions of people would be punished a day. Another example is that men drank back then to prove their masculinity to women. It was really amusing to me that a popular liquor back then was Lambanoag because I have drank that now, and it is no longer just for men to drink. Another aspect of Pre-Spanish colonization was that men were to work while the women stayed home and took care of all of the household duties. It is really unfair to women that they are obligated to stay home because what if they wanted to work, they just couldnââ¬â¢t.

Johnââ¬â¢s Descriptions
Jonââ¬â¢s descriptions may be defined as the only Revelation that describes Antichrist. It is known that this word is not used in other Revelations. Religious communities are interested in revealing who Antichrist is and what influence he has had on religious development and bible compilation. However, Apostle John is the only person who pays attention to Antichrist. John writes that Antichrist is coming: ââ¬Å"Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of usâ⬠. (1 John 2:18, 19) When John was writing the movement was already present and, therefore, John uses present to prove that the last hour has come. John defines ââ¬Ëantichristsââ¬â¢ as ex-church member who has abandoned their faith. It means that Antichrist was a Christian, but it was no single individual. Antichrist is liar who denies Jesus the Christ, as well as Father and the Son. John writes that he is not pleased with such people as they have betrayed the real faith. The God canââ¬â¢t be a spirit that denies Jesus Christ. Such spirit is Antichrist and he is present in the world: ââ¬Å"For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichristâ⬠. (2 John 1:7) The teachings of Antichrist aimed at showing that Jesus had not come in the flesh. Many people believed that Christ was divine, but erroneous belief that flesh was evil prevented them from faith expansion. John argues that humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ are central to Christian faith.

Development of Rural Economy Thesis Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 8250 words
Development of Rural Economy - Thesis Example Economic growth is believed to be evenly distributed when it helps both the rural and urban areas of a country. In this, the economy of USA is taken as model for development that could be used by Australia and Iraq to develop their rural side. It is believed that although Australia and Iraq are among the richest nations of the world but they have failed to develop their rural areas and there is large disparity of income and standard of living between people of rural and urban areas. The paper does not only talk about economic issues related to the lack of growth of rural areas in the countries mentioned above but also talks about the social issues and social changes that are needed to be imposed by the governments of respective nations in their search of achieving balanced economic growth. This paper has also suggested a new theory of rural vs. urban trade-off to explain how investment could result in growing both the rural and urban areas of any economy. Economic growth is a field of Development Economics that shows the growth in GDP or annual out of a economy over a period of time which is usually taken as a year. An economy is said to be growing if the output in the current year is greater than the previous year. For example, if the GDP in current is $120, whereas in the previous year it was $100, then one can safely that the economy is growing by 20%. Economists usually prefer diffused growth in the economy rather regional growth. The reason behind this is that region growth leads to disparity between different region of a country and can lead to urbanization and problems that coincide with it. Economic growth is usually brought about by following factors or by the following conditions: Output is growing: This implies that output in the current year should be greater than the output produced in the previous year. Output should be greater than inflation and population growth: Some times price increases also tend to move up the value of output. However, any value increase of GDP due to inflation is not considered as an economic growth of a country. Economic growth occurs when there is physical increase in the quantity of goods and this increase should also be greater than increase in population growth for an economy to grow. United States of America meets these conditions better than Iraq and Australia and that is why American economy has grown so much relative to these economies. Labor Productivity increases: If Labor productivity increase, they will be able to produce more output in the given production hours. This will result in economic growth of an economy and the United States of America is a prime example of this. Investment in Capital Goods: More capital means that the economy

The paper will also provide a brief overview of how the financial condition of both the companies has improved post the merger. The paper will further deal with how the two companies together prove to be more profitable than each of them individually and how the companies prove to be more successful. The merger of the two companies has proven to be very helpful and beneficial to the shareholders of both the companies. Race, Class and Standpoint Theory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Race, Class and Standpoint Theory - Essay Example The video shows David Christensen listening to Hugh. It is because of Christensenââ¬â¢s compassion and willingness to be honest with Hugh about the experiences of Latinos in America. Hugh mentions in the film how he came to shooting feeling burnt out about diversity work in America and left with a hopeful feeling and energy (USF, 2013). Standpoint theory identifies a particular group of social people as privileged. The dominant group of persons has privileges of their voices being heard more than the other groups of people. However, a variety of different voices of people of different social and racial settings can be heard more than the one from the dominant group. Hartsock, a writer about the Standpoint Theory, claims that womens unique standpoint in society is essential to providing the justification for the claims of feminism (Wise, 2011). It does this while also providing feminism with a method in which they can better analyze reality. People have different knowledge of other people, in terms of their various relationships to them mostly personal. Such knowledge is often incompletely articulated, tacit and intuitive. It is the reason there is always racial and class discrimination among human beings. There is much judgment about the white people, black people, Latinas and colored people. The decision makes one have the wrong perception of a person. An increase in the level of a personââ¬â¢s authority leads to the rise of power they get when having an implementation of their viewpoints on the world. Without power, the level of a personââ¬â¢s voice reduces and the individual has little to no say regarding policies (Johnson, 2006). The forces involved are all contributors to peopleââ¬â¢s communication in our world. Standpoint theory is in support of what feminist theorist Sandra Harding describes as strong objectivity. It is the notion that the ideas of individuals who are either

Strategic Management Process (SLP) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Strategic Management Process (SLP) - Essay Example A Mission Statement, on the other hand, gives a description of the things an organization is going to do and why. It outlines the ââ¬Å"primary objectivesâ⬠as well as the purpose of the organization in question. Unlike Vision Statement which focuses on the outsiders, a Mission Statement primarily concerns itself with the internal organization. It outlines the most crucial measures for the organizationââ¬â¢s success, and as such, its main audience is the organizationââ¬â¢s leadership team as well as stakeholders. However, Vision Statement also touches on an organizationââ¬â¢s purpose, but this is only as far as the organizationââ¬â¢s values as concerned and not ââ¬Å"bottom line measures.â⬠It shows the organizational values and purpose (Rothwell, 2010). There are five criteria I believe are very crucial in devising a Mission Statement. First, the Mission Statement should clearly describe the things an organization is going to do and why. I think this criterion is very important, since it is what defines the organizationââ¬â¢s reason for existence, at least to the workers and the stakeholders. As such, it gives the concerned parties the motivation to work hard towards achieving their common goals. The Mission statement should also be oriented towards giving productive results. It is through the results, which should be realistic, that an organization can work clearly knowing what it targets to achieve. This keeps all stakeholders focused on achieving the particular goals. In addition, the statement should include not only the organizationââ¬â¢s goals but it should also capture the people who are to work towards achieving the said goals. This is important because it not only sets clear targets for the organization but also make s the various stakeholders to own the goals, a factor that is very vital for improved performance within the organization. The statement should also be concise, but one that covers everything in its own scope. This is not only easy to read but
