Pursuit of Happiness (Siddhartha Essay)

Throughout Herman Hesse’s novel, Siddhartha, Siddhartha defines his own happiness and Siddhartha does not let anything beside himself dictate his happiness. Throughout his journeys, Siddhartha becomes enlightened because of the way he can so easily find happiness. Siddhartha proves this through his life decisions that go against the grain of â€Å"normal† decision making. Siddhartha throws ideas of money out the window if it is not what is going to make him happy. After a long journey, Siddhartha is finally able to find his happiness. Everybody is always scrambling for happiness; however, there are only few who can actually obtain happiness. The story begins with the background of Siddhartha: son of a Brahmin, lots of friends, plenty of money and advantages in life. Yet, Siddhartha decides he wants to become a Samana. At this point in the story, Siddhartha is willing to do anything to get his father’s permission to become a Samana. Once he earns his father’ s blessing, Siddhartha becomes a Samana and leaves behind all the advantages he had in life. This shows that Siddhartha is not ruled by material things.Siddhartha shows that making decisions solely on what will make him happy is the true way to find happiness. With no regard for money or pleasing others, many would call Siddhartha selfish; however, any happy person must be selfish because if a person is not fulfilling his or her needs then he or she is not truly happy. On the other side, if someone is fulfilling his or her needs, he or she is, in some ways, selfish. In chapter eight, Siddhartha raves and is elated over a simple night’s sleep: â€Å"What a wonderful sleep it had been! Never had sleep so refreshed him, so renewed him, so rejuvenated him!Perhaps he had really died, perhaps he had been drowned and was reborn in another form. No, he recognized himself, he recognized his hands and feet, the place where he lay and the Self in his breast, Siddhartha, self-willed, in dividualistic. But this Siddhartha was somewhat changed, renewed. He had slept wonderfully. He was remarkably awake, happy and curious† (91). This shows that Siddhartha enjoys the simple things in life and he is happy. By the end of his life, Siddhartha is happy and enlightened; however, he is not unwaveringly happy throughout his life. Siddhartha goes through depression and even thoughts of suicide. After leaving his wife and child –Who once were what made him happy- Siddhartha contemplates suicide but after being found by the river,  Siddhartha realizes that life is worth living. He later discovers the beauty of depression: â€Å"’Things are going downhill with you!’ he said to himself, and laughed about it, and as he was saying it, he happened to glance at the river, and he also saw the river going downhill, always moving on downhill, and singing and being happy through it all. He liked this well, kindly he smiled at the river. Was this not the river i n which he had intended to drown himself, in past times, a hundred years ago, or had he dreamed this?† (96). Siddhartha goes from rich to poor to rich again to poor again, yet through almost every change in his life, Siddhartha remains happy. An unknowingly eerie real life comparison to Siddhartha is former NFL running back: Ricky Williams. Like Siddhartha, Ricky Williams went through life and did whatever made him happy and did not let outside influences make decisions for him since he simply did whatever made him the happiest. Williams, like Siddhartha, started his journey as a young man with many advantages.Being a superstar athlete, Williams received a full ride scholarship to the University of Texas. After three years of being the big man on campus, Williams entered the NFL draft in 1999 and was selected fifth overall by the New Orleans Saints. After three successful seasons with the Saints, Williams was traded to the Miami Dolphins. After testing positive for a couple of drug tests, Williams was faced with a short suspension. However, Ricky Williams shocked the world by announcing his retirement from football in the prime of his career, similar to Siddhartha’s choice to embark on Samana life. Williams was finding himself lost in superstardom and was no longer enjoying the game he so dearly loved. The Miami Dolphins demanded money back off of Williams’ contract claiming that he had not held up his end of the bargain. Williams did not care about the money though. In the next year Williams downgraded to a modest house and lived with his long time girlfriend. Williams even spent time living off the grid in Australia and struggled with diagnosed clinical depression problems. After a one-year sabbatical from the game, Williams returned to his homeland of happiness and played organized football for the next six years and made more money but only because he could; Williams could have played football for free because it was his true passion. Th is part in Williams’ life is similar to Siddhartha’s time spent with Kamala in the way that Siddhartha did become a wealthy business man but only because that was what made him happy.Siddhartha makes a similar decision as Williams when he says, â€Å"He could have remained much longer with Kamaswami, made and squandered money, fed his body and neglected his soul; he could have dwelt for a long time yet in that soft, well upholstered hell, if this had not happened: the moment of complete hopelessness and despair and the tense moment when he had bent over the flowing water, ready to commit suicide. This despair, this extreme nausea which he had experienced had not overpowered him. The bird, the clear spring and voice within him was still alive –that was why he rejoiced, that was why he laughed, that was why his face was radiant under his gray hair† (98).The point of the comparison is that even people who seem to have it all may be lacking happiness, which t o Siddhartha and Ricky Williams is the most important aspect of life. Williams’ life took him all sorts of ways and through years of trying to find inner peace he was able to be a happy man just like Siddhartha. As Siddhartha says in chapter nine, â€Å"my path had once led me from his hut to a new life which is now old and dead† (101). Siddhartha’s happiness is a vital theme throughout Hermann Hesse’s novel.Rightfully so, Hesse shows happiness as one of the main goals of life. Similarly to Siddhartha, Ricky Williams also displays happiness through almost all walks of life and they both prove that one must suffer and do some searching before finding his or her true happiness. Through disregard of others’ opinions and society’s view of happiness is the only way to find oneself and the only way that Siddhartha could find himself and reach enlightenment.

Human Error Theory in Health Care

Patient safety is a basic standard of health care. Every step in health care service contains intrinsic unsafe factors . The combination among newest technologies, health innovations and treatments have introduced a synergistic development in health care industry, and transformed it into more complex field. This rise health safety risks which may result from problems in practice, procedures and medicine etc . This Essay will discuss the relationship between human factors and patient safety. Definitions Patient safety is the reduction of unnecessary harm associated with healthcares to acceptable minimum â€Å"(Runciman ,Hibbert , Thomson , Der Schaaf , Sherman ,Lewalle , 2009) Human error in health care can be observed by two different methods: â€Å"the person approach and the system approach†, each model has own perspectives . Understanding these differences has a significant practical outcomes in healthcare industry and open sights for management of medical error (Reason, 2 000). The person approach stress on the hazardous act and procedural deviations of nurses,  physicians, pharmacists. It analyses these risky acts as resulting mainly from deviant mental functions such as lack of memory & concentration , poor enthusiasm , carelessness, , and recklessness(Reason, 2000) . The associated preventive measures are intended mainly at decreasing risky inconsistency in human performance (Reason, 2000) . Whereas the system approach insight human errors as consequences rather than causes, thus it relays the reasons for error occurrence on failure of organizational system (Reason, 2000).Countermeasures are established on the theory that although â€Å"we cannot change the human condition, we can adjust the  circumstances under which humans work† (Reason, 2000). Human error Theory Patients always expect miraculous solutions to each problem. In such expectations people who receive medical services tend to believe that no mistakes can happen. It is ac tually not so, and it is seen that there are instances where the medical errors can occur at any stage (Moyen, Camrie, Stelfox, 2008).They can take place if the healthcare provider chooses an inappropriate method of diagnosing the problem. There is another scope for medical error if the execution part goes wrong, even after choosing the correct method. Therefore, such medical errors are only referred to as the human errors in the area of health science (Moyen , Camrie ,Stelfox ,2008 ) . The importance of this issue can be seen according to the report provided by the American Institute of Medicine. It stated that US Hospitals been have astonishing as there had been deaths which were be ‘avoidable’. Some cases were the medical staff inconvenient, and others were seen that the poor system was actually beyond the failure. The possible flaws in the system are there like the poor communication, between the medical team and between them and the patients; also the reporting syst em of the hospital suffers from the lack of the coordination in the hospital system (Taxis & Barber, 2003). .This subject can be better understood with relation to the existing human error theory which consider errors are opportunities for improvement and it interestingly highlight the concept of error, the same issue was adhered by literary thinker and philosopher Francis Bacon(1620), that human mind has always thought of the ‘over-generalisations’ which means that the human mind always have that over-confident element of remembering things. This thought itself gives rise to error, because it all of being thoroughly perfect which is not possible. The theory stands widely accepted by the British Department of Health, they have moved away from solely blaming the individuals, towards accepting the fact that error is something inevitable ( Runciman ,Hibbert , Thomson , Der Schaaf , Sherman ,Lewalle , 2009) Various literary scholars, scientists and the psychologist have pointed out the fact that there are some cognitive processes and the multiple disturbing factors in the organisational environment and the surroundings that can lead to various accidents in the health care domain.According to Reason’s interpretation for the concept of error (1990), it is â€Å"the failure of a planned action to be completed as intended – without the intervention of some unforeseeable event; or the use of a wrong plan to achieve an aim. † This definition was somehow subjected to varied reactions, while some accepted this possibility of the error while others thought it was only a pretext for the mistakes done in a medical scenario.Though in the contemporary context this Human Error Theory has gained popularity because the same has been highly in relevance to the Norman’s idea of error, and thus these perspectives which have been built are the ‘Human Factors’ (Carayon, 2008) Further many factors have been analysed with relation to the same theory like the slips and the lapses from the memory, the mental performance etc (Carayon, 2008). The same theory is widely accepted because of the precise description for the human factors but still the same remains vulnerable to the criticism. The same effectively brings out that the nursing is an important factor in healthcare but there can be chances for human fallibility where even the same system can fail to acknowledge those how such errors can be avoided. But the critique of the same has been there on building up the counter-argument that the job of nursing accompanies humanities, therefore the basic human factors which can be controlled like the personal hygiene like the wearing of the uniform, washing the hands, the use of anti-bacterial and the anti-viral techniques while handling the patients can guarantee high infection control (Handler, et al, 2006).The availability of the trained staff which is willing to attend the patients can effectively led to stop the fostering of the errors. Other human factors which can be worked upon by the nursing staff in the hospital can range from the valid reason for which a drug is being used the collection of the true and the right records therefore the proper documentation of the patient’s disease. These were the critiques that were made on the various human actors which can lead to serious medical flaws (system) and the consequences can become fatal (Handler, et al, 2006). Swiss cheese Model Also, the assessment of the Swiss Cheese Model is necessary to understand that how the system of the medical errors contains the holes of the errors. Alike the holes that are present in a Swiss cheese there are the inherent holes that are present in the medical system. This interpretation of the errors is formed on the basis of the Swiss cheese model, it emphasis on the causes present in the system rather than blaming any sort of the individual failures. In a way this model has acted so far as a representati ve for giving an idea how can the painful events occur in a healthcare system and how should they be prevented. The Swiss Cheese Model effectively brings the significant human factors and the system factors which impact the health care set up and the various quality and the safety perspectives. The medical errors according to the model have a scope to arise because of the Organisational factors, the unsafe work conditions, the human tendency for the unsafe actions and the unsafe acts. The organisational influences are the lack of the management of the resources that are provided in the healthcare settings like the excessive use of the tools which are torn out, the improperly maintained machines and the lack of coordination among the staff members (Reason, 2000).The next is the distracting and the fluctuating work environment of the hospital, also referred to as the Organisational climate, like the lazy staff members, the inexpert doctors and the dogmatic nurses who are unwilling to a ttend to the patient’s queries. The third influential factor is the operational process; this accounts to the methodology that is followed for diagnosis, the nurse or the medical supervisor might indulge either too fast processing or the too slow processes (Karman, L. , 2008).The extreme behaviour of the clinicians and the health care staff thus can be referred to as the problematic in the operational process. The interpretation of the model defines that the healthcare system should be diligent in dealing with the patients at the right time and with the right networking, for this the recommended system by the Swiss Cheese Model where the holes should be seen as the chances where the on-going plan or the operation can fail and the slices of the cheese are the ‘defensive layers’ thus becoming the safety steps or the shields (Karmen, L. 2008).. Therefore, the different layers only act as the filter, where even if the mistake, the error or the flaw in the operation h as occurred in the first step then the same can be trapped in the defensive layer, leaving no scope for the error to be passed on to the next level. This is possible because the next layer would not be having the same positions of the holes as it was in the previous layer. This interpretation thus propagates the main idea that though the natural tendency of a human being to make mistakes cannot be corrected but the correction can be made at the part of the plan that is being executed so that the chances of the fatal consequences are effectively minimised (Karmen, L. , 2008). Conclusion On the basis of the Human Error Theory and the basic Human Factors that are responsible for the failure of the health care system, one can conclude that the critical review of Swiss Cheese Model can come to rescue many patients ho are admitted to the healthcare centres. The question which the analysis has answered is that ‘Can the human errors be effectively reduced in the medical context? â€⠄¢ and it seems that a positive light spot on the solutions to catch the problematic have been provided by the collaborative efforts of the literary precursors, the medical scholars and the psychologists. The model and the theory which has been studied effectively solves the problem by attacking its root in that health care setting is an indefinite system in which the safety of the patient resides (Wagner, C et. l , 2001). The safety & quality is only achieved while there is possible healthy interaction between the medical providers, the health care standards and the potential errors in the existing health care system. A Problem Of Rivarly Through The Advertising

A Problem Of Rivarly Through The Advertising Is competitive advertising a good way to present your advertising of your product to the public? Diagnosis of the problem The problem is that the companies compete with each other through advertising and in the advertising they tend to criticize their competitors. Comparative advertising. When they start advertising in this way the start a chain reaction. The first company makes the first advertisement which criticizes the second company and they will react on this with a lawsuit. The third company will profit from this with their own advertising and lawsuits. And this results in bad advertising and a lot of lawsuits. If you look at this case you see that Burger king started with a comparative advertising. Burger King compared their hamburger with the hamburger from Mc Donalds. Mc Donalds reacted with a lawsuit. This gives Mc Donalds and Burger King free publicity witch resulted in Wendys reacting with their own lawsuit. Although this war of words give the companies free publicity it also creates negative publicity. The lawsuits also generates bad publicity and will reverse the effect the advertising had in the first place. The lawsuits creates costs which results in a higher selling price for the costumer. The costumer will not appreciate this and will buy less hamburgers (in this case). Which result in less profit for the company. In this case the companies in the end profited from the advertising war. But as I said in the last paragraph this is not always the case. The three companies showed an increase in sales after everything was over. People say that bad press is better than no press at all. After this case you can ask your self the question whether the companies had planned this war of words. I think that this is possible but highly unethical. I think that it is unethical because you mislead the customer. They get fooled by the information put forward by the fast food companies. In my opinion companies should be honest and ethical in their promotion. This is not the case here. I think it is not ethical to criticize a product from another company to promote your own product. Competitive advertising is in my opinion not the best way to advertise the product. I think that advertising should be positive. If you compare your product to that of an other company you give the advertisement a negative ring to it. You say that you are better that the competition. But you make the customer think about the competition at the same time. It is better to use only your own product and promote it through advertisements focusing on your own company and product. A positive advertising has more effect on the public than a negative one. In Belgium it is not yet allowed to use comparative advertising. This is with the intention to protect consumers but also competitive companies against unlawful advertisements. In Belgium it is seen as unethical and misleading to use comparative advertising. This is why something like the hamburger wars would not occur in Belgium. In Belgium they use positive advertising to promote their products. Fast food in Belgium Fast-food restaurants are defined as restaurants that are specialised in food that may be prepared and served quickly. Fast food is designed for ready availability, use or consumption. Food such as hamburgers, pizzas or fried chicken, that is prepared in quantity by a standardised method and can be dispensed quickly at inexpensive restaurants for eating there or elsewhere , are usually recognised as fast-food restaurants. Next to that we also consider the traditional Belgian Chips shops and the healthy fast-food restaurants as major competitors for Burger King. Sandwich bars (e.g. Panos), soup bars, Asian or other foreign food (e.g. WokAWay, pita, pizza, Thai or Chinese etc ) are getting more and more popular in Belgium. Still Mc Donalds and Quick would remain the biggest competitors in the fast-food industry of Belgium. Both of them are strongly present in Belgium, Food is a major component of the Belgian culture. This is evidenced by the fact that they spend about 20 percent of their disposable income on food and beverages. The Belgian fast-food franchising market is growing at an estimated annual rate of about 10 to 12 percent. Beside that, this sector is also one of the fastest growing sectors in Belgium (from 1997 till 2001). The fast-food concept is now beginning to provide an alternative format, especially for the lunchtime consumer, tourists and those on tight budgets. Strengths Mc Donalds Leader in Europe Ranked as 2nd in the hamburger market in Belgium. Mc Donalds restaurants highest concentrations are in the Flanders and the Brussels Central regions. Nowadays there are 56 restaurants in Belgium, of which 55 are local franchised (with a 24 franchise- owners in total). Play centres for young children Fast and friendly service, clean facilities, good food and an affordable price A strong brand image in the local community Environment-friendly (clean restaurant in-outside/ minimum fragrance and noise/ recycling, well checked detritus oil) Global knowledge Varied menu (hamburgers, salads, ice-cream, Mc Veggie, Happy Meal) Drive-in, Take-away Quick Market leader in Belgium and France The GIB Group has surpassed its original goal of having one Quick per one hundred thousand people in Belgium or one hundred Quick outlets for the Belgian population of ten million. Now 105 outlets. Quality of the ingredients (fresh bread, no genetically modified ingredients,) Application of the severe norms concerning food safety Respect for the environment (e.g. packaging) Total transparency against his customers A know-how in service for co-workers and partners Varied menu Quick Express service, which is a revolutionary concept that involves selling hamburgers on the streets to pedestrians Many Quick restaurants are located in the parking lots of hyper- and super-markets of the GIB group (GB) The use of Belgian meat for the hamburgers The benefit from their strong reputation of being Belgian Weaknesses Mc Donalds Has been a target for animal rights demonstrations over the past few years Has been the focal point of these economic frustrations resulting in protests, acts of vandalism Quick Only represented in few European countries and a few non-European countries (Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Hungary, Morocco, China) No/low market share (except in Belgium and France) No really relevance in international experience Opportunities Mc Donalds In the next two to four years: multiply the current 64 restaurants to over 100 this implies the creation of 3,600 new jobs. They want to be more present in Belgium in the future, with 70% of McDonalds new investment in the Flanders region. Quick Advertising stunts / promos (free Maxi menus for everybody who comes in cowboy outfit including horse) New receipts for the next years Cooperation with Kinepolis (Reduction for Kinepolis members) The Belgian retailer GIB is researching several options concerning the future of its fast food chain of restaurants Quick. GIB owns 57.9 % of Quick, and is reportedly looking for a strategic partnership for its ailing chain. GIB is considering several options: it could be an operational partnership, or a financial partnership, or even one that offers both aspects. Several names of other fast food companies are already circulating, including those of Wendys and Burger King of UK-based drinks giant Diageo. Threats Both will deal with the following threat ; growing fast food franchising. More and more fast food restaurants will have possibilities (opportunities), not only the hamburger restaurants. Mc Donalds Quick is market leader in Belgium with 105 outlets Mc Donalds had planned to have one hundred restaurants by the year 2000. But because of a combination of high real estate costs combined and significant difficulties in obtaining site permits this has not happened. The big obstacle remains the one of the labour cost issue. In labour intensive restaurants, the problems of job classification and minimum wages have the effect of increasing labour costs. Quick No awareness outside Belgium, France and Luxembourg No/low market share (except in Belgium and France) Less financial vehicles then their competitors Difficult years till 2002 (different years of crisis). 2002 was the year of recovery Despite the fact that Quick is the largest hamburger chain, American companies have set the pace in the Belgian fast-food market. Fast-food only represents about 5 percent of restaurants sales, which means that the Belgian fast-food sector still lags behind many of its European neighbours. This could be seen as an opportunity for expansion, as Belgium diversifies its traditional eating habits influenced by increased population mobility in a changing Europe. Next to that, Belgium has one of the highest percentages of inbound franchises as a proportion of franchise systems in the European Union, which helps to contribute to the strong competition present in the fast-food sector. Although the most popular fast-food items are hamburgers and pizzas, Belgians continue to have more healthy eating habits. There is a preference for sandwiches, soups, etc This is a result of the dioxin crisis of 1999; Belgians remain septic about food in general. Beside that Belgians are open for new eating concepts and are willing to support new fast food concepts. As the Belgians are having less time for lunch, a quick meal could be the ideal solution, taking into account their preferences. Articles promoting the health problems linked to fast food may have an important impact on social behaviour of the Belgian population (e.g. obesity, illness,). These well-known health problems are not really relevant for the Belgian consumer, because it is fact that the American eating behaviour is different from the Belgians, e.g less fat products, smaller portions, not as frequently visiting fast food chains. Also, Belgians are quite sensitive to the quality of food in general because of previous health dramas the last 4 years (BSE, Bird-plague, etc). It is important that people wont loose their faith in our quality labelled food. Environmental concerns are growing in Belgium; hence foods packaged in earth-friendly biodegradable materials make up a growing segment of the market. Next to that it is important for restaurants to state that the food they offer is not made from genetically modified ingredients. Operational problems increase because it is difficult to obtain planning permissions and licenses in Belgium. The labour costs are also excessively high. This results in a big disadvantage because fast food restaurants are labour intensive. It is of high importance to notice that Belgians believe in their Belgian national pride (as they are a small country). Belgians tend to perceive the United States as a culturally imperialist country. The biggest chance for a hamburger chain to enter the Belgian fast food market would be, offering a value added product in this market. Making each burger according to the customers wishes might appeal to this necessity. By doing this they distinguish themselves from other already existing chains like Quick and McDonalds Two possible niche markets might work; hamburgers at home and hamburgers booth on wheels for festivals (concept of hot-dog booth). This because home delivery is a service well accepted by the Belgians. Secondly, because Belgium is a festival country (Gentse Feesten, Rock Werchter, Beachrock, Pukkelpop, ). The two possibilities can give an added value to the fast food concept, taken into consideration that, extra precautions and new equipments will be necessary. Another possibility is positioning the hamburger restaurant near or at a petrol station or a railway station. The investigation ordered by Rik Daems, minister of Telecommunication and Government Organizations, pointed out some economical facts which might be of interest. One of this is the increasing importance of petrol stations within the Belgian out-of-home-market. The petrol stations are within that market one of the fastest growing segments. Shops, annexed to petrol stations have become strong values within the food service landscape. In these shops, the traditional assortment became broader with more (fresh) impulse articles that anticipate on the on-the-move eating behavior of actual consumers. (Bake-off, pizza, ) Belgium has one of the highest percentages of inbound franchises as a proportion of franchise systems in the European Union, which contributes to the strong competition present in the fast-food sector. Nowadays, Belgium has a high unemployment rate. This might be an opportunity for a new hamburger restaurant, knowing that each restaurant creates new job opportunities inside the region where it would implement (about 70 employees/ restaurant). There are three reasons why I think it is not a good idea for a new fast-food chain to enter the Belgian market. First because Quick and Mc Donalds are the key players in the hamburger market in Belgium. Second, the Belgian market is relatively small compared to other European markets such as Germany or the UK. Third, there are already too many fast food opportunities in Belgium. Nevertheless, if I really would like to play a significant role in the Belgian fast food market, I should think about some methods of strategy development. I could choose between internal development, M A or joint developments and strategic alliances. Mergers and acquisitions are out of the question, I assume that the key players, Quick and Mc Donalds, are not willing to give up their brand name to me a new fast-food restaurant. Joint developments and strategic alliances can be considered. My main reason for this strategy is the cost/risk spreading. The Belgian fast food market is very competitive and difficult. Therefore, I think that I should establish a joint venture, strategic alliance or partnership with other fast food chains in Belgium, e.g. with Panos or Carestel. Panos is present in the Belgian railway stations, known as Panos rail. Since there are just a few hamburger restaurants in the stations, it is an opportunity for me to be the first hamburger chain to be large-scale present there. Carestel, established on 40 different places along the high ways in Belgium and Luxemburg, offers breakfast, traditional Belgian meals, pasta, salads and sandwiches. Starting up a joint venture with Carestel would put me in a unique position to be present along the Belgian highways. The existing platform of Panos and Carestel can be used to accelerate the growth of the brand in Belgium and even across Europe. The size of Panos and Carestels operations and the availability of immediate locations will enable rapid development of a new fast-food restaurant in Belgium. The essence of a joint venture is the synergy effect of two different entities merging. Such an international business strategy will attempt to; solve many logistic problems such as access to good quality meat and other supplies, ease the access to the Belgium market, share risk with a local entity, and finally serve as a sign of commitment to the host government increasing goodwill. In addition, due to the complexity of many barriers to entry into Belgium, a potential partner with sufficient contacts/networks with government agency officials may smoothen the process of setting-up operations in the nation. The potential joint-venture partner should be large, well established, provide excellent distribution channels and have personal network access to government officials. It should also have modern equipment and a good management record. It is recommended that a partner is found by backwards integration. In other words, it is a good domestic meat supplier. In order to ensure total commitment and balance of power between the two partners, a 55/45 joint venture, with me as the dominant partner should be set-up. A joint venture will also significantly ease the entry to the Belgium market. In addition, local business customs and laws can be quicker understood and the local knowledge of culture, language and geography is beneficial for any entrant into a relatively unknown market. Concerning a joint venture with Panos rail, I see this concept more like one location where we are both present and where the consumer can choose between a sandwich or a burger. The reason for the shared site is only practical. Suppose a group of people coming for a snack but they have to be dining separately, is not nice. The consumer can choose in which section he wants to sit, even with a burger is should be possible to sit in the Panos rail area. The fact that the consumer is offered additional choices and varieties on one site is the major commercial advantage. For Panos this would be a unique opportunity to try this concept, and if the joint venture succeeds, Panos could implement this strategy in other European countries. Currently, they only have one franchise abroad, namely in the Netherlands along the A6 in a Q8 petrol station. I think that the best way of promoting my product when it is present at a railway station is in my opinion giving price reductions or free coupons to potential customers by combining the promotion with the train ticket. When a person buys a ticket they will get a coupon or something like that to persuade them to visit my restaurant and buy something. Concerning Carestel, situated along some petrol station on the Belgian highways, we can set up a joint venture. On the current sites of Carestel we could create a burger section and similar like in the railway stations, the dining area should not be separate. It is obvious that these restaurants only have to be established along the busy highways like E 19 Antwerp-Brussels, E 17 Antwerp-Ghent, E 420 Brussels-Charleroi, which is already the case for Carestel. In this case the promotion will probably be in the form of billboards present at the highway or at the sign of the petrol station. I will also try to establish an agreement with the petrol station for coupons and promotion related items to be placed at the counter to make the customers aware that I am there and to persuade them to visit me and try my products.

Descriptive Writting about the Beach in summertime Essay

Descriptive Writting about the Beach in summertime - Essay Example We smiled a grateful smile and raced towards its beginning but the waave had no beginning and no ending we just jumped in with a joy that could not be out into words but could be seen written on our faces as we marched onto the reason for our supreme ectasy we were proud to be finally at our destination- heaven a place where we belonged. We could not wait to make a dash for the welcoming waters. Our intense focus on the dazzling spectacle before us was interrupted when someone shouted, â€Å"Surf’s up, its summertime!† Everyone melted into spontaneous laughter. We could not contain our bliss and so it spilled over into utter desperation to taste the freedom and the energy that was summoning us to enter. This highly charged atmosphere was filled with the joie de vivre that exudes from a bridegroom as he is finally allowed to privately touch his virgin bride. Captivating silence was interjected with a sudden, loud splash and a bang. That was the announcement of the breakers as they crashed against the beckoning shore. The sea was like a roaring lion waiting to engulf us in its powerful jaw whilst the sheer brilliance of the sun painted the waters with shiny, shimmery, golden flecks. We could wait no longer and so triumphantly began our journey to reach the epitome of ecstasy. We were ready to fly. As the waves deafeningly appeared to draw closer and closer, beckoning us to its enthralling embrace, we succumbed to its bewitching effect and dashed off to grasp a drop of majestic splendor. We smiled a lovesick smile and raced towards its beginning but the breakers had no beginning and no ending. We were engulfed into its enormous hug and as a baby to its mother’s breast we breathed a breath of pure joy that could not be put into words but could be seen written on our faces as we longingly embraced the reason for our supreme ecstasy. We were

Life Span Development Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Life Span Development - Research Paper Example Children go through many physical and emotional changes and these years play a very important role in the lives of individuals as its effects last for the rest of the life. According to Erik Erikson’s theory of socio-emotional development, a person develops skills, self-esteem, confidence, a sense of responsibility, and learns about love and family values (Rosenthal, Gurney, & Moore, 1981). By the time a person reaches young adulthood, a person focuses more on interpersonal relationships and looks for a partner to commit to, which increases a sense of belonging. Erikson calls this stage Intimacy vs. Isolation (Rosenthal, Gurney, & Moore, 1981). A study concludes that romantic love in young adults consists three main factors: connectedness, attraction, and painful love (Seiffge-Krenke, Shulman, & Kiessinger, 2001). The relationship of a person with parents, the marital status of parents, and a number of other factors related to different stages of development have a significant effect on the romantic love of young adults (Seiffge-Krenke, Shulman, & Kiessinger, 2001). Selecting a life partner is one of the most important decisions of young adults and has a significant influence on the life of a person. Social Penetration is a term used to define relationships that move from liking to greater closeness and intimacy (Altman & Taylor, 1973).

Dissemination product Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Dissemination product - Essay Example Without effective hand hygiene, nurses can easily contract various diseases besides contaminating both the apparatus and specimens they often use. Debnath, (2009) explains that hand hygiene is a major concern in nursing given the risks that lack of effective hand hygiene presents the nurses. The project investigates the prevalence of the problem across the country and the possible remedies to the problem. Key among the possible strategies of remedying hand hygiene issues includes the use of protective gloves and regular disinfection of hands. The project investigates and proposes the possibility of training and education of nurses in hospitals in effective ways of upholding hand hygiene in hospitals and dispensaries. Promoting hand hygiene among nurses makes the profession safer for the nurses a feature that motivates them. Safety concerns make the profession both undesirable and unsafe. As such, the project seeks to find ways of enhancing safety in the profession thus improving the productivity of the nurses. The project adopts the descriptive research design. This implies that the project will observe the nature of the profession with the view to establishing the hand hygiene practices and the level of safety in American health facilities. Additionally, the research uses random sampling technique in selecting both the health facilities and the nurses to investigate in the project. This way, the research will provide the natural safety scenario in health facilities in the country. Data collection is yet another fundamental feature in a research. The project uses various data collection that will include the use of structure questionnaires. Additionally, the researcher will use interview and observation as methods of data collection. Each of the three data collection techniques has numerous strengths and weaknesses (Alur, Rane &Scheetz, 2009). By infusing them, the researcher

Fabrication in architectural design process Thesis Proposal

Fabrication in architectural design process - Thesis Proposal Example If a 3d printing or other fabrication method is employed, then there is the need to convert into a particular file for the sake of digital models. Digital fabrication tools are very essential in architecture because of attainable mitigation of the building costs. Free form shaped design in the design stage for countless unique components need some rationalization of the structural constituents so that they are materialized into buildings. In post-rationalization period, the structural system has been assigned to the already polished designs that at times need compromising final form of design (Laseau, P, 1980). The egg shaped form had to be reshaped with the use of Planar Quadrilateral Strips for it to meet the criteria for fabrication. While the relationship between design objects and the fabrication parameters has been explored previously, their independent was quite limited to integration of manufacturing constraints into developing a form, as it is the case of co-rationalized and pre-rationalization design approaches. In consideration of the application of a particular digital fabrication method, this paper proposes a research to be conducted to investigate the design-fabrication relation, approaching it from a different angle. This is in an attempt to respond to the question inquiring how the manufacturing parameters are integrated in the design process in facilitating the design-to-production communications. Design rationalization parameters, in this respect, are the driving force of any design in a generative procedure having imbedded fabrication. Digitally driven Architectures has significantly influenced the modernist architecture, as well as contemporary architecture (Malcolm, M, William, J, & Patrick, P, 1990). The influence of digital media, as well as Information Technology on the architectural education

An Empirical Project on The Effect of Variable A on Variable B Research Paper

An Empirical Project on The Effect of Variable A on Variable B - Research Paper Example In this research, the two variables in the investigation is the price of a pair of shoe and its demand in the market. To achieve this, several tools would be in place to determine whether there is indeed a relationship between the price and demand of a commodity. The tool used in this research is the price of elasticity of demand. In calculating the price elasticity of demand, the tool exploits the use of other several factors which have a role in determining demand and price of a commodity. The price of a single type of shoe can influence the demand for that pair in a number of ways. Price is in different stimuli that affect demand. To come up with the right conclusion on the effect of price on demand, certain price factors to be considered include the average price, nominal price, real price, nominal price, price levels and price changes (Landsburg 18). To explore such dimensions of price, it would depend on the data available. The price level refers to the price that is set on a c ommodity in a certain region. To approximate the price level, it is important to use the price index. The nominal value is the value of the commodity in terms of real currency. The real value is a measure of the market purchasing power after some period of time. In determining the estimates for the price elasticity of demand, the following model was in use; wGi= aGi + bGln xi + qGHln pH + †¢ zi + uGi. ... This formula could manipulate the amount of data that would be used to determine the price elasticity of demand for a pair of shoe in the market. An important tool to determine the relationship between price and demand is the study of the price elasticity of demand. The price elasticity of demand is an economic tool that shows the change that exists when there is a change in quantity demanded, on the price of the commodity. In addition, the price elasticity of demand could give a percentage change in the quantity in demand, when the price of the commodity changes by a single percentage. Most of the goods in the market would have a negative price elasticity, thus a negative price elasticity of demand. In many cases, the sign is not that important when analyzing the data. With a price elasticity of demand that is less than one absolute value, the demand is inelastic. This is interpreted as the change that occur at the price have little effect on the quantity that the market would deman d of the good. When the price elasticity of demand is more than one percent, the demand for the commodity is elastic, that is, a slight change in the price of the commodity would result to great change on the good’s quantity demanded (Landsburg 478). The above diagram shows a perfect inelastic price elasticity of demand. (Landsburg 489) The above diagram shows a perfect elasticity. The price elasticity of demand for a pair of shoes would depend on the following factors; if the substitute good is available, the percentage of income, necessity and other factors. As stated above, the price elasticity of demand for a good relates the price of a commodity to its demand. Therefore, when calculating the price elasticity of demand for a pair of shoe

Sports, Entertainment and Media after the 2nd World War Essay

Sports, Entertainment and Media after the 2nd World War - Essay Example By associating physicality with masculinity, certain sports/activities are labeled as either being masculine or feminine, depending upon the physical nature of the activity. Sports in which the use of body is forceful, dominating or aggressive, are considered fit for males because they are indicators of male power and thus, a definitive expression of physicality. But according to Lisa McDermott, physicality is suggested to be the complex interplay of the body perception, the agency and self-perception and is related to the qualitative understanding the lived-body as experienced and understood by the women when they are involved in sports or physical activities. To explore the meaning and significance the women derive from experiencing their bodies/themselves through these activities and the effects of these experiences greatly helps in shaping their understanding of their physicality beyond that of appearance in particular. By doing so she tries to help us understand the physical and social effect these experiences have on women in identifying themselves. In reference to the research carried out by Lisa McDermott; "Towards Understanding of Physicality, Within the Context of Women's Physically Active and Sporting Lives," this paper will examine female physicality in relation to sports and my chosen game; "Netball." It will discuss how society and media projects and labels certain sports only for males and how the females are subjected to unequal status as being physically weak. The paper will also look into the gender relations based on social and cultural norms. The last part will assess, to which extent; taking part in physical sport has changed the concept of female physicality, subjectivity and gender relations in relation to the existing social norms. Sports and gender Sports in the minds of many, is considered a "gendered" activity which reinforces male power. The stereotyping of the so called "biological difference" between males and females in the past w as used as the basis of exclusion of females from sport. Within the literature of sport sociology, we often find physicality linked with power related to physical power and masculinity. Even though the postmodern society holds out the likelihood of a post-gender society, gender as a system signifying differential values still exists (Firat, 1994) with sport such as rugby, football, ice hockey or boxing, and women still looked at as wives and mothers. An example in this respect is golf, where mothers on golf courses are more likely to be labeled deviant and asked to account for the care of their families than fathers on golf courses (West, Candace and Don H. Zimmerman, 1987). Although there are other sports which reflect physical strength and women are actively participate in them, but I'll discuss netball here in relation to physicality. Netball as a sport, which was earlier cited as only for females, entered a new era after the 70s when it began to be restructured into a profession ally administrated sporting organization and better funding.

The novel & Frankenstein Essay Example for Free

The novel Frankenstein Essay How does Shelley create sympathy for the Monster, as well as for Victor Frankenstein, in the novel, Frankenstein? Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, born 30th August 1797 was the anonymous writer who was idolised over due to her novel, Frankenstein. She was a literary icon in the romanticism era in the early 1800s. The globally famous novel was published in 1818 when Shelly was at the age of 21. Shelley decided to submit her novel anonymously as in that stage in history women were not taken seriously in society and were victims of sexist and prejudiced movements. The novel was originally a ghost story in which she wrote while being overwhelmed by a series of calamities in her life; the worst of these were the suicide of her half-sister, Fanny Imlay. Frankenstein is considered to be the greatest gothic romantic novel in history and also thought of as the first science fiction novel. Gothic horror was a common genre of use in the time Frankenstein was written. This was a time of great novels such as Dracula and Hound of the Baskervilles. Gothic horror is traditionally set in dark castles and countryside with eerie moaning music and bad weather. Written in 1818, Frankenstein is the deeply disturbing tale of a monstrous unnamed creation that was created in the name of science. Huge and strong, the creature, created by Victor Frankenstein kills and murders many throughout the tale, but considering his tragic beginnings, I must ask, who is the real monster in this gothic tale of horror? Frankenstein is cleverly written in two parts. The first part of the book is narrated from Frankensteins point of view as he relates his story to a ships captain. The second part of the story is the monster telling Victor how he came to find him and what had happened to him since he was abandoned. This technique cleverly allows the reader to see both sides of the story and judge who the real monster is. In chapter five of Mary Shelleys Frankenstein, the creature is given life. The opening paragraph makes excellent use of pathetic fallacy, using the weather to set the scene. The first lines of the chapter, it was a dreary night in November, and the rain pattered dismally against the windowpanes, make obvious use of traditional gothic horror scenery.

The Courageous woman Essay Example for Free

The Courageous woman Essay As a woman leader, Elizabeth Blackwell strived to become someone in life. She influenced mothers, children, wives, and sisters and showed them how strength could lead them to their dreams. Her family and friends discouraged her, but she kept going in her own direction. They told her how impossible it would be to become a woman doctor and she asked them why she should not be a doctor. They had no reasons to tell her, but even if they had one, it was not useful, so she still kept going no matter what the challenge and hard times she faced. After all what she went through, Elizabeth Blackwell accomplished her dream by becoming the first woman doctor. Elizabeth influenced women to become more confident in their own ideas and skills. Like other women who followed Elizabeth Blackwell’s idea, I am inspired by her persistence in life; even if I face hard ways, it is good to follow my dreams and travel by my own destination. I want to attend Regina Dominican High School, because I want to be like Blackwell and pursue my goals without hesitation and fear of other people’s discouragement. Elizabeth’s strength has had an impact on me because she is the kind of woman who proved that women are not the bottom of society; they are the top of society and equal to men. Her impact on me is that women can become whatever they want and equal with everyone. As a woman leader, Elizabeth’s strength will help me to develop my dexterity, put out my creativity in front of people, and follow my dreams to become a doctor. As long as I am doing what is expected of me, even if people are putting me down, I just have to be persistent to fulfill my dreams. To develop as a global leader, use any chance I get to disprove people who may have the wrong impression about me. Regina Dominican High School has its own belief in its students, and I am 100% sure that if I attend the Regina Dominican High School in the next four years, I will be like Elizabeth Blackwell and achieve my goal.

Cloud Computing in Educational Institutions

Cloud Computing in Educational Institutions Education plays a crucial position in preserving the financial growth of a country. Now a days the lecture room coaching is changing and college students are turning into extra technology oriented and therefore in his changing surroundings, its critical that we assume approximately the modern technology to include in the teaching and getting to know manner. One of the brand new technology prevailing now days is Cloud Computing. by way of sharing IT offerings inside the cloud, academic organization can outsource non-core services and higher listen on offering students, instructors, college, and personnel the critical tools to assist them be triumphant. This paper focuses on the impact of cloud computing on the education device and how we will provide the first-class education by using the above generation. Keywords:Cloud Computing, IOT, Cloud Education Introduction: The internet of things (IoT) and its applicable technologies can seamlessly combine classical networks with networked units and devices. IoT has been playing a crucial function ever as it seemed, which covers from conventional device to favored family items and has been attracting the attention of researchers from academia, company, and authorities in latest years. There may be an awesome vision that each one things may be easily managed and monitored, can be diagnosed automatically with the aid of the use of different things, can speak with every exclusive via net, and may even make choices through themselves. In an effort to make IoT smarter, masses of evaluation generation are brought into IoT, one of the maximum treasured era is information Technology. In many countries government. Is encouraging the parents to send their wards to be part of schools and colleges and has been supplying diverse schemes to promote education. The various schemes makes college students reaches to the colleges and schools however lack of centers, right instructors, lack of new books and labs centers significantly influences their results and for that reason discourages them to keep their education. One of the biggest challenges that the authorities faces in offering education is the lack of infrastructure and if available then preservation of that infrastructure and other trouble is purchasing and keeping a huge range of hardware and software require ample, ongoing funding and the abilities to guide them. Cloud computing can help provide the ones answers. Its a community of computing assets-located pretty much everywhere- that can be shared. For this reason through implementing cloud computing era we can conquer all those quick comes and maintain a centr alized device in which all of the government can test the education system from each and every aspects and preserve monitor and guide the device. They now not most effective test the desires of the establishments but also make sure that fine education is offer to every pupil and additionally his attendance, magnificence performances etc may be efficiently maintained without annoying for the infrastructure problem. The cloud enables make sure that students, teachers, faculty, parents, and workforce have on-demand get entry to to important records the use of any tool from anywhere. Both public and private institutions can use the cloud to deliver better offerings, at the same time as they work with fewer sources. Background: Cloud computing predecessors had been around for some time now [1,2], however the time period became famous sometime in October 2007 while IBM and Google introduced a collaboration in that area [1,2].This was followed by IBMs announcement of the Blue Cloud attempt [1,2]. Due to the fact then, every person is talking about Cloud Computing. Of path, there is also the inevitable Wikipedia access [1]. its miles potential that August 24, 2006 will go down because the birthday of Cloud Computing, because it became in this day that Amazon made the check model of its Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) public [Business Week 2006]. This offer, providing bendy IT assets (computing potential), marks a definitive milestone in dynamic commercial enterprise relations between IT users and vendors. The term first became famous in 2007, to which the first entry within the English Wikipedia from March 3, 2007 attests, which, again drastically, contained a reference to application computing. today, Cloud Com puting generates over 10.3 million matches on google Cloud computing predecessors had been around for some time now [1,2], however the time period became famous sometime in October 2007 when IBM and Google introduced a collaboration in that domain [3, 4].This turned into accompanied through IBMs assertion of the Blue Cloud effort [9]. These days, Cloud Computing generates over 10.three million Main Focus: Various Cloud Computing applications have been sent in the Education Department. In any case, most applications can be categorized as one of the accompanying three classes. Public Private and Hybrid School and college department use these different types of classes for own needs. Classification of Cloud There are three classification of cloud computing. Private Cloud Public Cloud: Hybrid Cloud Public Cloud: It is the IT infrastructure that is used by many companies and offerings at the same time. Records users of the clouds are not capable of manipulate and preserve this cloud, the entire responsibility for these matters rests with the proprietor of the cloud. Subscriber offerings can be supplied by means of any company and individual consumer. They offer an easy and inexpensive manner to set up web sites and enterprise systems, with high scalability, which in other answers would be available. Hybrid Cloud: Is the IT infrastructure the usage of the best traits of public and private clouds, with the task. frequently this type of cloud is used at the same time as an enterprise has seasonal periods of pastime, in different phrases, as quickly as the internal IT infrastructure cannot deal with current annoying situations, some centers are transferred to a public cloud (e.g. big portions of statistical statistics, its in its raw form or a few issue that does not constitute charge for the agency), similarly to provide user access to corporation assets (for private cloud) through a public cloud. Private Cloud: At ease IT infrastructure is managed and operated for the benefit of an unmarried enterprise. The organization can manage its very own private cloud or outsource this task from an outside contractor. Infrastructure can be placed either at the premises of the customer, or in an information center. Ideal non-public cloud is the cloud that is deployed in the business enterprise premises, served and controlled by means of its personnel. Atchafalaya: River Control :: essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Atchafalaya is the most original basins because it has a growing system with very stable wetlands. It is also the biggest river swamp in North America but has lost about 3,760 acres between 1932 and 1990. The loss of the wetlands is primarily due to erosion, human activities, and natural conversion. Many human activities, such as oil and gas pipelines, have interrupted the movement of flow and sediment within the wetlands that it is another factor in the loss of acres for the Atchafalaya. But there is not a total loss in this, the Atchafalaya have also positive outlooks on things. The basin consists of more fish compared to any other natural water system in North America. Let alone the production and distribution of three types of crawfish found in Atchafalaya. The crawfish is the main moneymaker for New Orleans fish markets. But the crawfish may only resemble 10-20% of what is caught. Most of it results in bycatch, organisms caught in the shrimp nets that ar e discarded, and the Atchafalaya is seen some times as a floating graveyard of different expired species.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Unfortunately, natural delta growth has been hampered by dredging activities along the main navigation channel. Dredge materials have been placed along side the channel, there by choking off the natural supply of fresh water and sediment to the marsh. TO solve this problem Atchafalaya sediment projects were designed to restore fresh water and sediment delivery processes to the Atchafalaya delta. Within 20 years, this is expected to create an additional 3,000 acres of wetland habitat.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Out of the 50,000 acres of Atchafalaya, three fourths of it is privately owned. The only way this is determined is if the land accretes from the shore of a lake or a bayou, it is the property of an owner. But if the land accretes as an island, the state owns it; making it an imbalance between government and private landowners. Most landowners are not looking at Atchafalaya as a historical landmark, but for what is worth under the water’s surface as money value. These wetlands support a 1 billion dollar annual fishery industry, therefore making these wetlands a positive outlook on the employment opportunities for the Louisiana people. Many fishermen make a living off of the marine species inhabiting the Atchafalaya. But the employment for this occupation is decreasing because of the land loss. Making it difficult for fishermen to understand what is government owned and what is privately owned.

The Validity of Henry Millers Radical Pacifism in Tropic of Cancer Es

It is hardly reasonable to expect a man who will forgo employment that allows such benefits like the necessity of food to attend to the needs of a war. Yet some people criticized Henry Miller because he did not take action; he hardly discussed the war in Tropic of Cancer; and, in their opinion, it is his moral obligation as a citizen-writer to address it. However, Miller is defensible only because his â€Å"mind is on the peace treaty all the time† (Miller, 143). The silence about the war in the novel suggests a stance of â€Å"extreme pacifism,† which is defensible because of his autobiographical honesty about his radical individualism and the artistic intent to describe the beauty of keeping in touch with humanity in spite of eventual annihilation (Orwell, 1 ). Miller’s passive attitude toward the war has been described by Orwell as â€Å"a declaration of irresponsibility† because Miller acts in a way to of â€Å"extreme pacifism, an individual refusal to fight, with no apparent wish to convert others to the same opinion† (Orwell, 1). Orwell shows he senses irresponsibility in Miller’s point of view because Miller exclaimed it was â€Å"sheer stupidity† to â€Å"mix oneself up in such things from a sense of obligation† if there were no â€Å"purely selfish motives† in a conversation he had with him (Orwell, 1). The endorsement of â€Å"selfish† demonstrates Miller’s â€Å"individualism,† because he’s not expecting anyone to be anything more than a rational egoist, or someone who has acts to â€Å"maximize one’s self-interest† [1]. Furthermore, his refusal to â€Å"mix oneself up† shows the passivity in his stance; it shows how he â€Å"hardly wishes to control† the â€Å"world-process† (Orwell, 1). The war is also a force that is outside one man’s control. Orwell also gets the impressi... ...tributions’ to society like work, engages in carnal acts with little remorse; he is constantly moving from place to place in search of food and shelter; and has a focus on the physical. In Tropic of Cancer it has even been suggested that he lives on a â€Å"higher plane† of existence (Miller, 191). Perhaps he doesn’t really belong to society. Therefore, it makes little sense for him to fight in something he doesn’t have control over in a society to which he doesn’t belong in or to fight for or against an abstract idea like a nation that he doesn’t believe in. The concept of a nation is particularly foreign because â€Å"ideas have to be wedded to action;† they are â€Å"related to living† (242). Graduation Speech -- Graduation Speech, Commencement Address

Are you ready for the real world? Will I am ready, and I want to help you out. ... I want to pump you up! Tonight marks a turning point in our lives as young adults. This milestone of graduating with a high school education has come at last. And yet, knowledge does not exist solely in scholarly facts, but more so in the relationships and friendships that we have forged along the way. Albert Schweitzer once said, "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us." As I look at the graduating class of 2012 I am reminded of the unique gifts each one of us has to offer the world. We are artists, poets, playwrights, comedians, singers, musicians and athletes. We are dreamers, believers, thinkers and doers. We are strong-minded, determined, truth-seeking, hardworking and compassionate. But who showed us the way along our journey, and how do we know if we are stayi ng the course? Family has and always will be one of the most important things in our lives. Look around this gymnasium and take in the love and support that our parents, friends, teachers and administrators are showing for us by sharing with us this special night. Here at Young, parents and teachers have had an unspoken agreement of joint custody for years. Whether that be tucking us into our bed at night or tucking us into our desk in the morning. We will never forget the words of encouragement. I will always remember Mr. Gann's "You miss school, you miss out," or Mr. Fellows' "Lack of planning on your part does not necessarily constitute an emergency on my part." I don't have to think hard to remember the smell of freshly baked hoagie bread on Wednes... ...ge. Do you know that you are very strong? The next page is the end of this book, and there is a Monster at the end of this book. Oh, I am so scared! Please do not turn the page. Please, please, please. Well look at that! This is the end of the book, and the only one here is . . . me. I, lovable, furry old Grover, am the Monster at the end of this book. And you were so scared! I told you and told you there was nothing to be afraid of. Oh, I am so embarrassed ..." All of us are like Grover, in that we could let our fears take hold to inhibit us and keep us from getting what we truly want. But it isn't until we truly realize that sometimes, in order to face our fears, it can be as easy as turning a page. Having the courage to be the person you are and want to be. And so I would like to congratulate the graduating class of 2003, and I thank you for all the memories.

Poor Black Little Fellow

CAUSE AND EFFECT ESSAY. THESIS STATEMENT: The Pembertons neglect Arnie’s basic needs for various reasons. All along years, white people have been discriminating black ones. That is why several black people, such as Martin Luther King, have been fighting for their right to be treated as equal to any other person of any other race. And even though white people have been simulating to accept them, they have been treated as if they were of a lower social class. This is what happens with the main character of the short story entitled â€Å"Poor Little Black Fellow† by Langston Hughes, Arnie, who was adopted by The Pembertons, a white family. They neglected Arnie’s basic need for various reasons. The first reason why they disregard Arnie’s necessities is that they were used to live by their own. They had spent their marriage on loneliness. This is because they were unable to have children. And hence, they became accustomed to live alone. As a result, they were inc apable to take care of Arnie’s affective needs. For instance, they let him sleep in the garage and they allowed him to bring friends but not inside the house. All in all, these features are important to state that The Pembertons avoided Arnie’s needs. The second reason why The Pembertons paid no attention to Arnie’s requirements is that he did not belong to their family. He was son of The Pemberton’s lovely servants who had died and to whom The Pembertons loved very much. Therefore, they adopted Arnie as their â€Å"own†.Nonetheless, they were unable to completely accept him and consequently, they had many prejudices against him. On the whole, these pieces of information contribute to state that The Pembertons took no notice of Arnie’s necessities. Finally, the fact that Arnie belonged to an Afro-American culture is the last reasons for The Pembertons’ carelessness. As he was black, The Pembertonss deep inside had prejudices against h im. Apart from that, they adopted him just because they felt it was their religious duty. And as a consequence, even though it was unintended, they behaved in a rude way towards him. All things considered are significant to assure that Arnie’s needs were ignored by The Pembertonss. To sum up, the fact that The Pemberton lived alone their whole life, that Arnie was not their son and that he was black contribute to the reasons why the family uncared for Arnie’s affective needs. Summarizing, taking into account these facts it can be affirmed that there were many causes why The Pembertons avoided Arnie’s affective requirements.

Yes the data collected did swear the equation Fc=42Rmf2. This is because the only transfigure value in this case f, had a direct relationship with the value of Fc.The only other values that had to be intractable in this lab was the radius and the thr single of the safety device spark plug precisely they were immutable variables (constant at 0. 87m and 12. 4g respectively) meaning that they had no varying effect on the value of Fc. For on that smirch to be a relationship between Fc and 42Rmf2 when the value of any of the variables changes the value of Fc has to change as well Because the value of f had a direct relationship with the value of Fc, when the value of f changed the v alue of Fc changed as well. In this particular case when the value of f grew so did the value of Fc.For example, during the 50g foot race the frequency was 1. 2Hz and the Fc was 0. 61N, and during the 100g test the frequency was 2. 08Hz and the Fc was 1. 84N. This shows that as the frequency increases so does the Fc playacting on the system. This thitherfore shows the relationship between Fc and 42Rmf2. 3. A) When the get out was pulled start and the disclose up was still spinning, the nag started spinning at a winged rate (took less time to pick out 1 cycle close to the trip) B) This happens manifestly because the radius is beingness shortened.Because the jade on the end of the string is moving around the plane mickle at a constant speed it is at that placefore being acted upon by a constant net- extract. In this case the net- compact acting upon it (the fireplug) is Fc, therefore because it is Fc acting upon it, the force can be reason by the formula 42Rmf2 as th at is equal to Fc. In this case because the string with the stopple on the end was being pulled down this means that the radius of the entire circle was decreasing (less string= littler outperform= smaller radius). In that formula if the radius is smaller that means that the receptive force get out be large. In this case that larger the centripetal force acting on the rubber stopper, the blistering the rubber stopper rotates around the horizontal circle. C) The laws of saving of cogency state that the total nada in the system stays the same merely apparently takes on different forms ( energising and voltage being examples). Therefore this case is not contrary to the laws of conservation of efficacy only when because when the radius is decreasing the rubber stopper speeds up.In the laws of conservation of sinew when an object is locomote up the object is gaining kinetic vigour. However in this case while the stopper is speeding up the hanging mass (along with some of the string) is falling to the ground. From a conservation of susceptibility perspective when an object loses natural elevation it loses potency energy. Therefore in this case the object at the top gains kinetic energy while the mass loses possible energy. Because of this energy transfer no energy is lost in the system as hen the object is losing potential energy the other object in the same system is gaining kinetic energy, therefore the energy stays the same. D) In figure skate the skaters do the exact same issue as what was done in this lab experiment. In order to spin instant(prenominal) they bend low gear (get low to the ground) and cumulate their arms and legs in. This causes them to spin much speedy than they were originally spinning and follows the same principles that the rubber stopper experiment followed. When they get low they lose potential energy but getting low causes them to tuck in (tuck in their legs and arms) and ultimately take for a smaller radius. This smaller radius causes them to have a much greater centripetal force and ultimately causes them to spin faster and causes them to gain kinetic energy. This follows the laws of conservation of energy as when they lose potential energy they gain kinetic energy (theoretically no energy lost- only transferred) Sources of Error In this particular lab activity there were not very numerous potential inaugurations of error simply because it was not as complicated an activity as many others. Therefore all errors that were do were simply human measurement errors. The main source of error in this lab activity was measuring the distributor level off/frequency. This was a take exception simply because the person measuring had to do many different things in a very small amount of time. That one person was responsible for firstly choosing a spot along the path of the horizontal circle to begin the measurement from, then that same person had to start the regulate during the very small time si ck in which the rubber stopper downed by that specific arrest on the circle. From there the person had to count the stopper pass by 5 times and stop the watch when it passed by the 5th time. This made it very difficult to get a completely accurate measurement for the period and the frequency, as it was very difficult to get an exact measurement of that time period. These cold-shoulder miscalculations of the frequency caused the calculation of the centripetal force to be slightly wrong as well because the calculation of centripetal force depended on the frequency. This is evident because our Fg and Fc calculations are way off, as they were supposed to be to the highest degree the same number as Fg= Fc. The shaping to which I am affiliated employs about five employees. The owner of the piece of melt down is our boss. Typically, the organization is receptionist that is, it is produces service-oriented products. The organization produces all tomentum cerebri products since it has confine resources to diversify product sale. The organization can procure hair products from different manufacturers. This take aims transactions more(prenominal) competitive (because of the organism of many manufacturers). The organization is truely supremacyled by the principles of benevolent resource management. Indepen dent contractors argon used for the procurement of supplies. Hiring of employees involves several stages. First is the identification of positions vacant. Second is determination capableness recruits to fill these vacancies. Third is training the recruits to jibe that they go forth become high performing employees. The selected recruits testament be hired. They allow for be give concern packages and benefits (corollary to their type of work). Terms of employment and regulations of the firm will be discussed in scheduled sessions. This is done to straighten out the employees aw ar of the firms policies and current frugal standing. Regulations will serve as limits to employee behavior in the piece of work. Most of the time, regulations argon systematically arranged in manuals which are apt(p) to employees. In the case of my organization, filling of probable employees is easy and not as restrictive as that of large business establishments. Usually, selection of potential e mployees and the training period are limited to 2 or 3 weeks. Orientation of the organizations policies and regulations usually take a day (this is so since the organization is small). In sociology, centralization is delimit as the function by which activities of an organization, especially those about decision-making are concentrated within particular positions or areas. centralization can be vertical or horizontal. perpendicular centralization is the typical relationship between departments and the control panel of directors. The board of directors usually provides the general framework of a given policy. The motorcoachs of the departments implement the provisions of a policy. Hence, the managers attain the specifics of a given policy. Horizontal centralization is the typical relationship between departments. In organizational theory, most departments are generally important than other departments. For example, the gross sales department is usually more important than the judicial department of a firm precisely because the reason holds the future of the firm. The sales department bumps the financial shape of a firm. Hence, relatively, the actions of the sales department may determine the actions of the other departments.Under centralization, open confabulation is only mathematical between managers of several departments and the general manager of the firm, and between the board of directors and the general manager. Open communication between ordinary employees and the management is done with division supervisors (although the information becomes blur as it passes from one level to another). Open information is only possible for high level managers and of course, the board of directors.Standardization is the process of agreeing upon a given set of guidelines for interoperability. Standardization is equal to enacting rules to maintain the operability of an organization. Hence, an organization creates standardized procedures in entrap to provide the employees an efficient and effective means of variant work to the firm. For example, standardized guidelines for hiring employees allow a given partnership to select the best and efficient concourse to occupy vacant positions in the troupe. In addition, standardization generally prevents work discrimination in a company. This is so since the behavior of all workers in a company is limited by standardized work procedures.Role specialization in industrial sociology is defined as the diversification of job positions in the workplace. As one may note, jobs in most companies are highly diversified. Diversification ensures efficiency and effectiveness of a company. Diversifying job positions saves time and amount for a company. In addition, diversification provides the avenue for change magnitude cooperation and interdependence among workers. For example, or else than employing twain volume writers, it is efficient for a put down return group to employ one script writer and one film reviewer. This saves time for the firm. self-sufficiency is a condition in which employees are given many freehand over the nature and handling of their jobs. This is typical of research firms where employees are given deadlines. The employees are free to do anything so long as the prescribed work is finished on or before the given deadline. By giving some autonomy to the employees, alienation is prevented. The employees are able to role their work values (professionalism) and skills without institutional limits. The distribution of provide in a firm should be do more uniform to allow workers more voice. Resting power to one person or group of persons prevents workers from breathing their grievances. Thus, in making the distribution of power more uniform, the firm creates institutions or channels that can put on all the grievances and require of the workers. Once the grievances are advantageously documented, dialog is the only plausible option. In the negotiation process, the management and the workers should have equal powers in hurt of negotiation. The options that management will take should be balance by the actions that the workers will enforce.Technology should be make more human-resource oriented that is, engineering should put downstairs the discretion of both the management and the workers. If the management entirely controls the direction of a firms technology, the workers loses value. If the control and direction of a firms technology solely belongs to the workers (e.g. in communist countries), the firm loses potential earnings. Therefore, there is a need to strike a middle position between the management and the workers. A middle position will enable the two parties to cooperate effectively with regard to the use of technology in the company. In addition, this will make work more participatory (employees and the management). In terms of skill, no substantial changes are necessary except that cogitate skills should be realign ed. This will allow more cooperation between employees, and consequently, making work more participatory (since both job in the firm is viewed essential to the pertinacity of a firms operations). Here are then the necessary changes that the management should undertake to make work more participatory1) Realigning related jobs change magnitude cooperation among related jobs increases employee fight and motivation of employees2)Putting some technologies of the company under the control of the employees the employees will determine the production process (work in general), making their perception of the workplace more positive. This will generally increase participation among employees3)And, institutionalizing open channels of communication (grievances included) the needs and grievances of the employees will be taken into account by management. If these needs and grievances are addressed, the management will expect an increased worker propensity to participate in company activitie s.ReferenceHall, Richard and Pamela S. Tolbert. (2004).
